ACA Marketplace Plans in Land O' Lakes
The Marketplace can lower your monthly premium with a tax credit, but the plan list is long and the trade-offs are easy to miss. We compare the options for you, explain what each one really costs and help you enroll.
What Marketplace coverage is and who it fits
Florida does not run its own exchange, so people here buy Marketplace plans on the federal exchange. Each plan there includes the same essential benefits, such as doctor visits, hospital care, maternity care, mental health care and prescriptions. A carrier cannot deny you or raise your price for a pre-existing condition.
The biggest draw is the premium tax credit. If your income falls within the eligible range for your family size, the government pays part of your monthly premium. Some lower-income clients also qualify for extra savings that cut deductibles and copays.
They tend to fit people who are self-employed, between jobs, retired before 65 or working for an employer that offers no health coverage. If a credit would not lower your cost, we will say so and compare an off-exchange plan from our Individual Health Insurance page.
How we help with your Marketplace plan
An honest tax credit estimate
Using your projected income and family size, we figure your likely credit. That way you see your real monthly payment instead of the full listed premium.
Options lined up together
We gather bronze, silver and gold plans from several carriers and show premium, deductible, out-of-pocket maximum and copays in one place, so the trade-offs are easy to spot.
Your doctors and prescriptions checked
We confirm whether your doctors and nearby hospitals belong to each plan's network and how your usual prescriptions are covered. A low price means little if you lose your doctor.
Enrollment handled all the way through
We work through the application with you, select the plan and make sure the first premium is paid so your coverage really begins. No account gets left half done.
Support once you are covered
When your income shifts during the year or a letter asks for paperwork, we explain it and what needs updating. Reporting changes promptly can spare you a repayment when you file taxes.

Times to take a closer look at Marketplace coverage
- Your job-based plan has ended
- A job loss opens a special enrollment period, usually 60 days. Miss it and you could go without coverage until the next open enrollment.
- Your renewal price jumped
- Carriers change prices and doctor networks every year. Renewing without a look can leave you paying more for a plan that suits you less.
- Your income has changed
- Freelance work, a raise or fewer hours all change your tax credit. An old estimate can mean paying too much each month or owing money when you file.
- Your family got bigger or smaller
- A marriage, a new baby or a child leaving a parent's plan all count as qualifying events. Each one can change which plan fits best and how large your credit is.
- You pay full price for your own plan
- Plenty of self-employed people pay the whole premium without checking for help. A quick review shows whether you could have been saving all this time.
How it works when you call
- 1
A short conversation
We ask about your income estimate, who needs coverage, your doctors and any regular medications. It takes about as long as a cup of coffee.
- 2
Your options, laid out
We show you a handful of plans that fit, with your estimated credit already applied. We explain why a silver plan can beat a bronze one for some people, and when it does not.
- 3
You choose, we enroll
Once you pick, we walk through the application with you by phone, by video or at our office. Nothing is submitted until you have said yes.
- 4
Coverage confirmed
We make sure your first payment is made and your start date is set. You leave knowing your deductible, your copays and who to call with questions.
What decides your Marketplace plan price
What you really pay is the premium after your credit, plus your costs each time you see a doctor or pick up medication. A low premium often comes with a high deductible, so we weigh the two together. Our help adds nothing to your bill, since the carrier you pick pays our commission.
- Family income and size
- These two numbers set your tax credit. A small change in the income you expect can move your monthly payment by a noticeable amount.
- Age and tobacco use
- Premiums rise with age, and tobacco users can be charged more. When age raises the price, your credit often grows to offset part of it.
- Metal level: bronze, silver or gold
- Bronze has a lower premium and a higher deductible, while gold flips that. Silver sits in the middle and is the only level with added cost-sharing savings for qualifying incomes.
- Network design
- HMO-style plans with smaller networks tend to cost less than plans with more doctors to choose from. In Pasco and Hillsborough counties, which local hospitals a plan includes can shift the price too.
Questions people ask about Marketplace plans
- When can I sign up for a Marketplace plan?
- Each year, open enrollment starts in the fall and runs into mid-January. Outside that stretch, you need a qualifying life event such as losing coverage, moving, getting married or having a baby, and that usually gives you 60 days to enroll.
- Is it possible to repay part of my tax credit?
- It can happen. The credit is based on the income you expect, and your tax return checks it against what you actually earned, so earning more can mean paying some back. We help you start with a realistic number and update it during the year if things change, which keeps any difference small.
- Do I pay more by enrolling through you instead of on my own?
- No. The plans and prices are exactly the same. You pay nothing for the consultation, and the carrier you pick pays us.
- Will my current doctors be covered?
- That varies by carrier, and plans from the same carrier can have different networks. We look up your doctors and preferred hospitals in each plan before you choose. If the lowest-priced plan leaves out someone you rely on, we show what it costs to keep them.
- Can I get dental or vision coverage as well?
- Adult dental and vision are usually not built into Marketplace plans. We can price them separately, and our Dental Insurance and Vision Insurance pages explain how they work, so you can see your full monthly cost.
