Individual Health Insurance in Land O' Lakes
Buying coverage for just yourself shouldn't mean guessing. We lay out plans from multiple carriers side by side, explain what each one costs over a full year, and check that your doctors and medications are covered before you enroll.
Coverage Built Around One Person
An individual plan covers you alone. It's the right fit if you're self-employed, between jobs, retiring before your employer coverage ends, aging off a parent's plan at 26, or working somewhere that doesn't offer benefits. If you need to cover a spouse or children too, our family health insurance page is the better place to start.
Most people come to us with the same question: why do two plans with similar premiums feel so different once you use them? The answer is usually in the deductible, the network and how specialist visits and medications are priced. We walk you through those details in plain words, so the plan you pick is the one you'd still choose after a year of using it.
Our help is free. The insurer you end up enrolling with pays us, so having us look over your options never adds anything to your bill.
How We Shop Your Plan
Several carriers at once
We gather plans from multiple insurers in one pass, so you get genuine choices rather than a single company's menu, all side by side instead of in a pile of brochures.
Doctors and hospitals confirmed
Name the doctors you use and the hospital you prefer. We verify each plan's network includes them before you sign up.
Medication lookup
Share your medication list. We check how every plan covers those medications, because that expense can vary more than the premium.
Cost across a whole year
We total premium, deductible and out-of-pocket maximum so you can compare a light year with one that includes surgery or a hospital stay.
Tax credits and marketplace plans
If your income could earn you a premium tax credit, we show those figures as well. Our ACA marketplace plans page explains the details.
Support once you are enrolled
Bring us questions about a bill, a renewal notice or a change during the year. You keep talking to the same people.

When Individual Coverage Deserves a Look
- Your work coverage is about to stop
- Quitting, a layoff or switching to contract work typically ends employer benefits. That loss usually opens a special enrollment period, generally 60 days, so moving early helps.
- You are turning 26
- Coverage as a dependent on a parent's policy usually ends at 26. That lets you sign up outside the usual window, a good time to get a plan under your own name.
- Your renewal came in much higher
- A bigger renewal does not lock you in. Plans shift every year, and another carrier or plan level might charge less for comparable benefits.
- Your doctor dropped out of network
- When your plan loses a doctor you count on, shopping at open enrollment can get them back in network.
- Your coverage does not match your use
- Some people pay for generous coverage they never touch, while others hold a deductible they could not realistically meet. Both deserve another look.
How a Plan Comparison Works
- 1
A short phone call
You call us and we ask a few basics: your age, the county you live in, rough income, your doctors and your medications. Most people have everything they need within reach.
- 2
Your choices, laid out
We gather plans from several carriers into one view, then talk through where they differ and why. Meet at our office, or review it all by phone or video.
- 3
Straight answers on trade-offs
We tell you what each plan does well and where it falls short. If the cheapest premium comes with a deductible that worries you, we'll say so.
- 4
Enrollment and next steps
Once you choose, we help you enroll and explain when coverage starts, when the first premium is due and what your ID card will show.
What Shapes Your Premium
Individual premiums follow a pattern, and you can predict most of what drives them. We show how each factor changes your choices, and we never quote a price until we have compared actual plans.
- How old you are
- Federal rules let premiums climb with age. The same plan costs a 55-year-old more than a 30-year-old.
- Metal level and deductible
- Bronze, silver, gold and platinum plans swap a smaller premium for bigger costs when you get care, or the reverse. Choosing the right level counts for more than hunting the cheapest monthly price.
- Network style
- HMO-style plans with narrower networks usually cost less than plans that pay for out-of-network providers. That gap matters if you travel or live part of the year in another state.
- Income and tax credits
- For marketplace plans, a tax credit based on your expected income can reduce your premium. We work out that estimate with you to limit surprises when you file taxes.
- Tobacco use and county
- Insurers may charge extra for tobacco use. Prices also change by county, so a Pasco address brings up a different plan list than one in nearby Hillsborough.
Common Questions About Individual Coverage
- Could a pre-existing condition get me denied?
- Not with an ACA-compliant plan. Those plans cannot reject you or raise your price over your health history. Certain other plan types do review health history, and we will clearly tell you if a plan we show falls in that group.
- Is there a set time of year to buy a plan?
- Most people sign up during open enrollment in the fall. Outside it, you usually need a qualifying event like losing other coverage, moving, getting married or having a baby. Not sure if yours qualifies? Call and we will find out.
- Will I pay more going through you than buying direct?
- No. The consultation costs nothing, and your premium is the same as buying straight from the insurer. The carrier you choose pays our commission, so you pay nothing extra.
- Is it worth adding dental or vision?
- Many individual health plans offer little or no dental or vision coverage for adults. If cleanings or glasses matter to you, our dental insurance and vision insurance pages describe those plans, and we can price them during the same call.
- What do I need on hand when I call?
- Your birth date, a guess at this year's income, your doctors' names and your medication list. With that, we can show you actual options side by side.
